Description

This platform is designed to substitute the use of liquid nitrogen for snap freezing fresh tissue specimens at places where the use of liquid nitrogen is not allowed due to its safety concerns. Platform itself is made of aluminium with tube slots specifically made for pre-cooling the sample tubes prior to snap freezing process. When this platform is used with dry ice in combination with cryo-spray the frozen tissue specimen’s quality and preservation is as good as the liquid nitrogen and better than the dry-ice alone.

The published and peer reviewed scientific paper shows the efficiency of snap-freezing of this platform to be as good as the liquid nitrogen which is the gold standard of this technique.

As a member of the tissue bank team, one of my roles would require the use of snap freezing on a daily basis. Previously, when snap-freezing the specimens, the method that I was using at the time had a detrimental effect on the samples and the samples were susceptible to ice crystal formations.

To counteract this issue, I decided to use the snap freezing platformed developed by imrali. With this technique I have noticed a significant improvement, in that the ice-crystal formation upon freezing of the tissue reduced drastically. The aluminium block combined with the cryo-spray is a great way to incessantly freeze the sample whilst keeping the tissue frozen during the entire processing time. Thus, preventing the tissue from thawing and yielding more viable tissue samples. In addition, the aluminium block is meticulously designed in a way that enables a more effective and efficient way of aliquoting tissue samples with ease and within limited space.

Overall am I satisfied with the imrali product and have been for almost three years.
